00:10 Jason Atwood: This is the 240th episode of CloudFocus Weekly for the third week of March 2016. This episode is titled Random. round robin. CloudFo... Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Well, you're right in the middle of my read. Ooh, sorry. I'm still ooh-ing in the middle of my read. Ooh, ooh. All right, let's start over. CloudFo I'm your host Jason Al and joining me co-hosts 240 times in a row, Justin Edelstein Deeb

Justin Edelstein: That's how I'd be announced if I was a boxer.

Jason Atwood: If you were a boxer that's how you... Yeah, I think that's... So a couple changes here in the studio. First of all, mood lighting.

Justin Edelstein: Yeah, I noticed that I like it I like it too. I think we need another one in the other corner. We can put another one in this corner or that corner.

Jason Atwood: So we have it. we have it's So we- So we have it's so mood rating and bigger table. Our computers are touching.

Justin Edelstein: Our. My computer is sad because it's not touching. My lights touching your computer.

Jason Atwood: We need that. We need to. Talk to your computer about boundaries. computer does not respect boundaries. And HR policy here. My computer also does not. Respect any it respects zero of those should we send your computer to some? Some management training courses or what did I used to have to go do? I don't want sensitivity Because a sexual rasp in the training they didn't train you had a sexual rasp Which is what I thought I was going for and they're like, oh, no, you're not supposed to do.

Justin Edelstein: Oh, I Now start over The

Jason Atwood: I'm actually and it still rings with me. I'm still the stuff. I learned 12 years ago 15 16 years ago still I

Justin Edelstein: I know you're always talking to me about it Stop it.

Jason Atwood: Yes, that's right. I do say that speaking of things you should stop It's weird what I decided to do because we didn't really have much of a agenda today. We did a lot of ketchup in spring, couple go last week. I forgot we even talked about but we have a blog post because we always have the blog post of the week which by the way at some point. during this life, it might be a double blog post. We might get to the point where we have two blog posts per week, so give us even more to talk about. And I have a couple of ones that are hitting my calendar. The one I'm writing for that's coming up is gonna be a fun one.

Justin Edelstein: Yeah, I think it will be too. Yes,

Jason Atwood: So, but we'll talk about those. And then, because... I'm calling this random bots be like Because of you know random things to talk about so I just threw a couple things to talk about and basically Basically were like Twitter thought so I threw them on we can talk about all of them some of them none of them And we'll get to that done. We'll make our pick of the week So you have at least 20 minutes to figure out what you're gonna pick. No, I have them Very good Well, let's start.

03:18 Justin Edelstein: Actually, that's what I was doing. I was going to grab the URL for it.

Jason Atwood: We'll start where all things good you start with is a brand new blogger on arkusinc.com, on the blog, that arkusinc.com. Love the new bloggers. It's been there. You're going to start to see a lot of new bloggers. for Arkus. She could have blogged in her past life. I thought she did a really good job.

Justin Edelstein: I I I He doesn't I guess review you would say of a tool called lead designer by ArcSys, not Arkus ARXXUS technology partners that talks about you know a very more a more sophisticated way of doing You Form Interests or specialties that Maybe like buying a field to to a specialty that a person has so you could say like this person has a specialty in paper specialty in binding materials. I'm reading like right off the table. Well they're her examples. The idea is well George has a specialty in paper and binding material. Sarah has a specialty in paper. This person said that they they were interested in binding materials so if George is up first, he's gonna get it and not Sarah.

07:18 Jason Atwood: Right, and if the round robin, it would skip Sarah. It would potentially skip Sarah. So in other words, if round robin is with a lot of tension. Or it would choose Sarah even

Justin Edelstein: Though Sarah doesn't have a specialty in binding materials. So a nice tool.

Jason Atwood: So something that's just not built into sales for us. Yeah, it just isn't. And it's funny the because I was talking to a client yesterday I think or Wednesday. And they were pointing out how a lot of the very specialized CRMs, like the ones that are built for certain industries, they have this stuff built in because, you know, it's very, and I always say, well, you know, that's the, they're not platform players. They're trying to build in all the features and that's why I do this. But it is something that comes up now and again. So this is a great way of doing it. You know, again, you can talk through process and why things come in as leads and why you should be assigning or should it be the Shark Tank where they all go into the...

Jason Atwood: I like the Shark Tank. Yeah, but there's a reason for this. And I would say speed is one of the reasons that you want round-robbing because Shark Tank makes everybody have to go do some work versus sending it. And one of the examples I got... That actually just doesn't work with but it's like interesting one which is around Robin with time restriction So it's George Sarah and Bill lead one comes into George lead two comes into Sarah lead three comes into Oh, if George doesn't touch his lead for 10 minutes it comes up out of George and goes to Sarah. Yes So that's like with time restriction now get on your leads Yeah, like, well, there's certain types of leads that if you don't call back within a certain period of time, they're going to move on.

Jason Atwood: Has a better chance of winning. LendingTree. Lending entry? Is that a place? It's a good, yeah, it might be out of business. You and I go to the same... Barber nowadays now since I convinced you well no since my brother went out of business Because he was a terrible barber. He was he was he was very good a real barber He was very good for what he did which is not much for not a lot of money And now you go to a real barber. I go to a real barber like serves whiskey It's part of the experience.

Justin Edelstein: It is.

Jason Atwood: I'm all into it. That's why I scheduled it at the end of the day. Go get my haircut at the end of the day. I don't wanna get it like noon.

Justin Edelstein: No, I go in the morning on the weekends and then take a nap. After a big long haircut. I go and get the haircut, have some whiskey, go home, take a nap.

Jason Atwood: Sometimes your life is, don't tell me how hard you're working when you're taking naps. after your whiskey hair cut. My life is awesome! Saturday whiskey nap. You can hire Justin at these firms. Hashtag Saturday whiskey nap. I dare you to hashtag tweet that hashtag. So speaking of random thoughts...

10:30 Justin Edelstein: That's my best segui ever. What is this stuff that you put on our list? Well, I mean, I mean, what's the point of this? You know, somebody has to put together the list. So you're just like, what's on my mind grapes?

Jason Atwood: Yes, this is mind grapes. This is the random thoughts. This is the, this is the list of things I would do when you weren't here. I would just sit here and talk about these things. To yourself? So if you just want to leave, come back in 20 minutes. I'll be back in five. I got stuff. No, I'm gonna say things. I'm gonna check my email and you're gonna give your you're gonna give your your opinion.

Justin Edelstein: You give glared and then I'll just give you a hot take. Yeah, you hot take. All right. My first one. Is the new chase a TMS.

Jason Atwood: So chase has been rolling out these big bulky a question.

Justin Edelstein: Yes, you talking ATMs or are you talking, like,

Jason Atwood: Teller replacement ATMs. Yeah, teller replacement ATMs. Yeah, teller replacement ATMs. Yeah, teller replacement ATMs. I'm all about you. So listen, let's talk me. I love technology. I love new things. I always think. Yeah. And I'm all about the improvements and making it better. And I've used these things five or six times now. And I wandered up to one the other day as I noticed that every other ATM, the regular old ATMs were totally packed. I'm like, oh, let me go to these one of these tower big machines and because you know, because no one's in line for them. It's as tall as a teller. And what I noticed is they are slower. They are terribly designed. Like just I mean, I didn't take too much time, but like where they put the buttons that everything is a beep to it.

Jason Atwood: It's just the worst design piece of crap. And it's slow and I just don't understand how the teller, the actual ATM, sorry, the ATM, which you have something to say about because your father was part of the, was he, was he? What'd you have to do?

Justin Edelstein: He was part of the team at Citi who worked on the first ATMs.

Jason Atwood: So there you go. So you have some. I feel like these people have taken a huge step back. I feel like a committee met for at least three years to come up with requirements for this thing. They're like, one guy's like, it should be big. And the other guy's like, it should have a huge screen. And the other one's like, it should be touchscreen. And then when they put it together, it's like this monstrosity. First of all, why does it need to be the size of like a room? Like the other one, like you never.

Justin Edelstein: You never see that 30 rock episode where they're trying to redesign. The microwave? No. And like, they're like, put wheels on it! Put wheels on it! Put four doors on it! All of a sudden it's a car? Yeah. It's a good one. It's two 30 Rock references in one episode.

Jason Atwood: It's almost like you fall asleep every night watching 30 Rock. What? Yeah. You want to get real? Want to get real? What? Maybe take your mind-grazed whiskey naps. Listen. Jack Welch.

Justin Edelstein: It was all about my grave. So that was my thought. I just don't understand why. So I used these things one time. And that's it.

Jason Atwood: And it didn't do what it was supposed to do. So I stopped. Well they also don't do anything else that the ATM doesn't do.

13:34 Justin Edelstein: So like there's no improvement to them. Well I think they have like bigger limits. Maybe to like how much how much cash you might be able to take out But here's the thing. I'm sitting next to this little small thing.

Jason Atwood: That's very Hm and then we give you like a couple hundred bucks It's this huge thing that supposed to be replacing a tower But I can't do any of this stuff the tower could do like just dump a bunch of cash on it I'm

Justin Edelstein: Gonna if I'm going to Vegas and I'm like trying to, you know, do my thing out in Vegas. I need at least 15 large. That machine will probably give it to me. I doubt it.

Jason Atwood: Either way, you're still gonna go to T.E.L.R.

Justin Edelstein: Yeah, I definitely am. You're going to tell her. I'm going to tell her I'm saying this. So then she can be like, why are you taking all this money, sir? I'm going to Vegas, and I'm an idiot. Vegas, back tomorrow. Whiskey dab. Alright, so that's what's on your mind. That was my first one. Hot take. Hot, second one. How much Jason loves, I don't even know what this stands for, GCS. Oh, you're not a New Yorker. Grand Central Station.

Jason Atwood: Oh, I love Grand Central Station too. Every time I walk through there, I'm just impressed.

Justin Edelstein: I feel like a tourist when I walk in there, except my eyes just go up to the side. Me too! I've lived here...

Jason Atwood: The mass majority amount of my life, I've gone in that place a billion times, but now I have to go through it once a week because I go to this physical therapist place,

Justin Edelstein: And it's like right there, and I have to go through it. Every time I walk in, I'm like, wow. I know, I love it. I used to work there in the Graybar building which is connected. So I used to go right in on the seven train and come upstairs, and every day I'd be like, wow. And I wouldn't even leave it, I would eat. You can do it, you can do it, you can do it. because it's in a train station. It's just like built in these little rooms all in the train station.

Jason Atwood: And there's restaurants, there's a cool restaurant. And it won't go, but that's how much Jason. All right. Apple music recap. What's, what's, what's to recap? Well, we get, I think it's almost a year now coming up on a year, something like that. So still use it all the time.

Justin Edelstein: Yeah. You know, sitting there. The only thing that I have sort of against. Apple music is that they do this? The for you tab yeah, and like they get all these playlists. Yeah, you're cool Yeah, but when the playlist is done it just stops playing Yeah, that's what most playlists do I know but like you've curated this whole page of stuff for me Just you just want to next thing you want to play the next thing just

Jason Atwood: Keep going I'll tell the couple things I learned the other day that I didn't even know I could do so obviously you know You can download stuff great. You can take albums Great, Adam, do your thing. I've now been downloading albums before I go for a run. So streaming it and pulling through my, you know, whatever. I download them. But I've been I then the other day I went to pull myself a little running playlist, picked a bunch of Apple music stuff. It did it on my computer. It instantly showed up on my phone. I hit it. I went into my running program, it locked in, I was like, this is just, it was so good and so kind of like where I wanna be with music, I was like, I'm just very very happy.

16:59 Jason Atwood: And then it didn't work. The only thing I want them to do is do a year. I want them to do a year subscription because when you see, there's something about when you see the monthly build, you're kind of like, hmm, do I really want this? But if I want to say pay, it's like Dropbox and Evernote, for example, it's yearly. I pay for it for the year. I get the bill and when I get the bill I'm like, oh, but that is done. And I'm like, I got another year. Great. I move on. But like the monthly just makes me think, do I really need this? I found a little quirkiness with it when it comes to things I already owned. prior to Apple music. I never listen to anything I ever owned. I have millions of CDs.

Jason Atwood: I never listen to anything. Because when you open up your iTunes,

Justin Edelstein: Sometimes it's just like, I can't find that file. And I'm like, why do you have to find that file? Just wants to. It's still like a little bit like file based where it. It kinda needs to be more just like, yeah I'm streaming this stuff. Because I don't care that I already own that album. And you shouldn't either. Like it's in your library, I'm subscribing to your thing. Don't try and find the file cause it's not on this machine. Somewhere else. It's on your Drobo. Yeah, so you're not gonna find it. So play it. But then it doesn't, it won't play. Won't play. Can't find file. Won't do it.

Jason Atwood: Can't won't won't can't All right, so all I'm saying is I still enjoy it and Both the people my family use it my wife and daughter So I feel like the whatever it is a month I

Justin Edelstein: I feel like it's great also hard to figure out how to do the family plan Once you already have an initial plan. Oh, that's your fault like impossible

Jason Atwood: Cancel it started to know how to do it. You don't even care next up What's this thing you found?

Justin Edelstein: So this is interesting. Oh, you know, is that why we're talking about it? Because it's interesting. Well, we're talking about because on my mind grapes. Did you actually get one of these things ever? I did. I have it. So what are you saying? This this thing is not a thing anymore.

Jason Atwood: So so one of the things that's happening, we've talked about Kickstarter, Kickstarter and Indiegogo and there's some others are crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is becoming massive. If I watched a... I watched a crowd fun, there's a shark tank. You see the shark tank with the beer crowd fun, crowdsourcing. Right? It's a crowd sourcing. Crowdfunding are becoming huge. It's kind of funny just, sorry, shark tank.

Justin Edelstein: When they go into the tank and they're, and they're, they'll ask them, have you had any sales? And they'll say yes. And they'll say, how, how'd you do that? And they'll say, oh, it was kick, it was all Kickstarter. And they kind of go. Well, I think sometimes they're like, oh, and sometimes they're like, eh. Well,

Jason Atwood: I mean, if a hundred thousand, if you sold a hundred thousand, sold a hundred thousand, that means that many people wanted your product well enough to put the money up, but there's been a recent trend where these massive kickstarters, the ones that are going and making. eight, nine, 10 million, they busted their goals and they go huge, that there's actually turning around where they're going broke. Saying they're going like QR code viral. Well, they go QR code, then they go broke like broke. So like one of the biggest ones ever, and I think it's now been out come by something else, something else been bigger, was with the coolest cooler. I own one, I did get one. Not cool. But like half the people who didn't get them, I mean, like they ran a money they.

20:19 Jason Atwood: They had trouble with this and that. And there's a big one for a drone that everybody went in for this drone. They raised millions of dollars. This little mini drone.

Justin Edelstein: They never shipped it. They just went bankrupt. How does that happen? Do you get your money back or what?

Jason Atwood: This is the problem with these ones. Don't get your money back. I mean, you had a friend who not while he didn't go broke. I mean it took him over a year to ship, right? So people waited for over a year for the product. It's interesting, I don't know if this is just, I mean it's kind of like a microcosm of business, because these are businesses. But it's also reminding me how there are places where, you know, it doesn't matter sometimes how much money you have. If you don't have, if you can't go and execute on things, and these people just, I mean, this cool is cool, and this guy had all this- this funding and all this stuff, and now, they're working for money. They kind of went out of business. I mean, I think it's a nice, I mean, for me, it sounds like I own it, so it's not like I need another one.

Jason Atwood: .. And it came and it works fine with it tailgating hadn't started or after tailgating. But by the way, shipped, I think two years late, literally two years after it was, it was funded. So just, just interesting. I mean, I, I will say my kick starting has slowed down to something I'm still waiting for, like it's been now another 12 months and they haven't shipped it. And I forget and I go back and I'm like, where's that thing? Like I must've bought that over a year ago.

Justin Edelstein: Where is it? You gotta remind yourself, remind yourself, I want something.

Jason Atwood: Yeah, we go to the kickstarter, let's go look, but it's kind of, it's, as much as I was fascinated with it, and I spent a lot of money on kickstarter, now I'm much more cautious, and I'm kind of like, if I don't see this for a year, I'm going to be happy. I know we've bought each other gifts off kickstarter and had to, I mean, you, what, you gave me the, the, gave you some, and then I was like,

Justin Edelstein: I, I, I couldn't, I, I gave you a piece of paper that said here here, this might. This is coming and it never came but then you can't got your money back. Yeah,

Jason Atwood: Right. Yeah, they ever ship it it shipped Yeah, I didn't get coin. Yeah, I didn't get it, right I've never even heard of I said

Justin Edelstein: Since you guys were supposed to ship this like a year ago I want my money back and they gave me my money back. They were good about it. Yeah, like we totally understand I was like Apple pay

Jason Atwood: Right, what you waited so long that something took over. I love Kickstarters, but it is, I have to say buyer beware, because it's not even if they don't get funded. They can get funded and take your money fully and they can still mess it up. And then lastly, I don't know, this is kind of like just a random thoughts. I've been tweeting out a lot of things I keep in Evernote, lists of things I keep in Evernote. When I post something, I get a retweet or something, people are like, oh, that's cool. I just thought, I don't know. I just throw out some fun things that I keep in Evernote. Evernote is definitely my second One I've been using recently, which I don't know if you have one, but this maybe you'll be doing one, is a tax document.

23:28 Jason Atwood: So come tax time, it's always like a struggle to go through all the things I need to get ready for my accountant. And we have the same accountant, so it's the same thing. So like I have this list of like all the things I need to go get. You know, I keep shows I watch, obviously, books I've read, I do that. I have... Mine is going to be so much less interesting. Yeah, of course not. Yeah, yours is terrible. Bucket list. I do keep a bucket list, which is fun. I do keep a list of all the places I've traveled to just by year, just because... If someone's like, oh, when is the last time we went to blah, blah, blah, I can now just pull it up and be like, yeah, we went in this day or I was, you know, that's when I was in Nola, which is kind of fun.

Jason Atwood: You know, obviously all the normal stuff.

Justin Edelstein: I have my Dreamforce 14 agenda in here. That's good.

Jason Atwood: Oh, I keep a list of I keep a list of words I spell badly. Recipes. Lots of accounts and past stuff. Here's the big list of stuff. Here's one I did the other day Credit card cleanup So well because you have credit cards, but it's not what you think it is. No, I know exactly what it is It's where all your credit cards are linked. That's that's what I okay.

Justin Edelstein: So like I was that happened to me the other day with my with my easy pass Metrocard where I have my credit card that got replaced They gave me, sent me a new one for fraud or whatever. And all of a sudden I got a letter in the mail from the MTA. Like, your card's gonna stop working.

Jason Atwood: Like, ooh. Celebrities I've met. I keep that list. You're on the one called Doofus I've met. That's stupid. I keep gift ideas, which I just erased all the ones for you.

Justin Edelstein: Oh my God, are you serious? Yes.

Jason Atwood: What Like it's just at the bottom. July 12, 2008. That's what it's saying. But like all these things are from, I mean some of these things are so old. Because I keep notes and I just kept them forever. Oh I keep a list of, I did this with the wife this year. I don't know if I mentioned this on the podcast. Where I kind of made a list of things- things we did in the past year. And then on like after the first of the year we kind of went over it. Like we sat around and... We were traveling. We just went over all the cool stuff we did last year like the things we did I got a good list. Remember our old

26:39 Justin Edelstein: Remember our old boss at at the company that we don't name? which one not your boss but your boss's boss. Yeah, okay Do you remember that guy not the young guy but the older guy who took over for that guy? All right, he's kind of a clowny clown. Yeah, I have I have a list of all the stupid crap he gets to say Let's not put the cart before the mule here. Oh no, really? That's terrible. I actually did that, I guess I would sit, cause it'd be on the phone, so I guess I, I would sit there in the meeting and just like. That dumb idiot said something.

Jason Atwood: Give me another one. Is that it? You had one. I called you out, right? You don't have another one. I can't do it.. can't do it. I can't do it again. Oh, another one. appliances. Cause I always try to figure out like when you, when your appliance breaks, like you then have to Go figure out like where is that? What model is. It's so much Anyway, so those are some random lists I keep in Evernote. How's that for just random? Pretty good. All right, I got stuff for next time. Next time on, how would we talk about the Apple encryption thing in the FBI?

Justin Edelstein: Okay. Yeah? I have a lot of whiteboard stuff in my Evernote. Whiteboard pictures. You keep the whiteboard back in the day.

Jason Atwood: Now we don't we also talk about Chicago World Tour And then I was thinking about since I'm heading on vacation we can talk about Vacationing tips and hints like how to have a fun vacation Maybe how to get ready for vacation what you do like prepared like Evernote No, they get out of well like things you never

Justin Edelstein: Yeah, well that's why here's so successful don't even do any you just go you just have your I just walk right on wherever I'm going with just say take me wherever you're taking me whiskey nap. Yeah whiskey naps So why do you mean you're you're oh my pick pick of the week. We're doing that still, huh? still Let me get all right booster for Salesforce sounds OSTR Okay, booster. No, a booster. Another Chrome extension. Yeah, you're just all about the Chrome extensions. So this is for folks who do lots and lots of change sets. This is good. You've had like two good picks crushing it lately crushing it so when Anyone who's done change sets knows that the change set user interface is Absolute terrible garbage. I mean you can't go from like screen to screen It doesn't even sit you have to like oh, let me choose this these four custom fields save go to the net and then it resets The whole thing well sorting grabbing what you actually touched.

30:02 Justin Edelstein: I mean actually so this guy Matt Simonis or Simonis, I'm sorry dude. that's I can't for Matt Simonis, I think created this nice Chrome extension that allows you to to turn on a this change set assistant right and it turns on, like a searching component. So like a little area that just goes right above everything and you just start searching and it finds it and then boom you can just add it too. And it also adds support for like better sorting. Yes.

Jason Atwood: In the change set. There's a couple other little a things. So do you use this in, do you do this on the page or do you do this like you're on the page and you click this thing or

Justin Edelstein: Do you like you just do this at any time? Click the little dealie and it sort of turns it on and then you go.

Jason Atwood: You haven't used yet is what you're telling me. Yeah. Friday podcasting with Justin Edelstein the best whiskey podcast.

Justin Edelstein: Is this a whiskey podcast for you kind of feels like it not gonna line. I here's over there in the corner, but they're warm They're warm. They're not cold. They are IPAs There at least I would crack one open but They're definitely warm. All right. No, that's it. Just do it. The link will be where on the on the the go. Good, good job.

Jason Atwood: I'm going to I am headed to the most magical place on earth. All right. Everybody I've talked- I- So this is the app you use when you're at vlogging. The biggest thing I've heard of is just the lines. So when you're lined, you can tell which lines, you can fast pass. Again, this only really applies to anybody who's going to Disney, but it is supposed to be a very, very well thought out good app. but it shall be done. So anyway, it's called My Disney Experience. And I'm warning all about their sort of how they do things. And they're very, like it's an engine. They have good back end like they have good computer systems. I don't know why it surprises me But I'm also going to Universal so I'm comparing the two so it's kind of fun anyway Alright, well that's it for this week.

33:37 Jason Atwood: We'll we'll be back next week Maybe I think we might be able squeeze one in next week. Otherwise, otherwise might be a couple weeks because of vacation Until then, you can follow us on Twitter for more whiskey naps from Justin at just Edelstein. if you want some, what, what things I think about in New York, as I wander around Jason and Mattwood, you follow the podcast company, Arca sync, facebook.com slash Arca sync success and community, sex community and power of us.
