00:10 Jason Atwood: This is the 239th episode of CloudFocus Weekly for the second week of March 2016. This episode is titled SFDC. News updates. GodFocused Week is brought to you by The Permissioner. or go to thepermissioner.com where it costs a dollar. Nope, nope, so, I'm your host, Jason Atwood, joining me, co-host many, many, many times in a row, including a few lost episodes. How you doing Justin? I am so tired. Oh did I say Justin Edelstein?
Justin Edelstein: Justin Edelstein. No you didn't. You're fine. Whatever people know who I am. Friday Podding. What's this DC in this ass? I know. What does the DC stand for? So for those. Like comic books. For those who are newer to the world of.
Jason Atwood: CloudFoast Weekly. We do talk about Salesforce.com. What what we say, 60% of the time?
Justin Edelstein: 60% of the time, it's 100% of the time. Yeah.
Jason Atwood: And Salesforce a.com SFDC, but Salesforce has removed the.com, not from everywhere. So I feel like I can still use it until it's It's gone from like inside the org. It says, yoursalesforce.com. Borg ID?
Justin Edelstein: Yeah, but it's gone from all the marketing. No, not even close.
Jason Atwood: I can find it on the website in about five seconds. Salesforce Lightning. By the way, it's still their real company name. Lightning. Lightning. Lightning. Thunder. Rain. Rain. Clouds. Sunshine. Birds. No! You... Texas. Texas, Steve. Texas! Sorry, look that up. Google it. Alright, so we have a little catch up. Last week we did Spring 16 and talked a ton about Spring. And, for us, it's done. It should be in your org. Go read up on the many, many blog posts about that. So we have two this week because we're doing one catch up. And then we're just going to kind of go over a lot of the... the quick hits of news that have been happening in the last couple months, some big, some small, some very local to us, some not at all important, some that might get a little tense in this room.
Justin Edelstein: Really? Were our computers touching? Is that why you had to touch them earlier? Yeah, I don't like it. I do not like it when our computers are touching. Don't touch my computer with your computer. My computer was touching your computer. Don't give my computer the cuties.
Jason Atwood: Oh, show me show me on this computer. He's just shut up. Don't say that.
Justin Edelstein: Oh, if you just noticed don't say that. Oh wait Take two I'm saying nothing.
Jason Atwood: All right Show me on my computer where your computer touch my computer right here. Oh, okay. I'm touching it And we're back with all the right good. Let's go. All right, so let's do our to blog post at blog that are you think We're on a budget here.
03:16 Justin Edelstein: Dot com. It's not a budget. We're on a budget. All right.
Jason Atwood: First one up by Mario Espinal. Why was that a question? It's not a question. NPSP, talk about use your acronyms, nonprofit starter pack, 3.x favorite features. So, we at Arkus here do a lot of non- by the non-profit starter pack. Big fans of all the non-profit software that's out there. Nice dead paws. And so, Justin's dying. It's the best one ever. People are going to love this one, by the way.
Justin Edelstein: If you don't give any cough on a podcast, it is. It is. You will love it. You know, nothing says podcast like coughing. Yes. And noise. Yes. And phones ringing in the background. Yep. and just all sorts of sound effects being brought in. Well, this is pretty.
Jason Atwood: So we do have production issues here at the newest podcasting studio. First of all, we have the white noise, which just went away.
Justin Edelstein: It could be back. It'll be back. This room is now negative 10. It is the air conditioner and it's right above us. And that's what that noise is. Hopefully it's like, all right, it's cool enough in there. We'll leave it alone for now.
Jason Atwood: I think it'll come back. And the other one is they are actually shooting a TV series. A TV series for a television show, television network that I've never heard of.
Justin Edelstein: But it's about a TV series. And I asked them what network is this on and they told me and I was like, Aliens? Is that like on cable? And they're like, yeah, it's a cable channel. And I'm like, so.
Jason Atwood: So no. Is it on Hulu? Like where can I find this? I don't think it's who it's like. What's it called?
Justin Edelstein: No, it's called like pop pop or something. Yeah.
Jason Atwood: Anyway, they're shooting it. Not only are they shooting it on our floor, they're shooting it in and around and in our hallways, you might hear people yelling action, action and quiet on quiet on the set, which they never are.
Justin Edelstein: Oh, my God. The other day they were shooting and they were being spontaneous. So someone whipped the door open and. and then shut the door behind them. Of course. So it's awesome. It's the greatest.
Jason Atwood: They've taken over like half this four. So like every room has its thing on it's like in one room it says like lighting and the other room tech and then you have like edit Bay one and then the other rooms have taken over they've made into the set. So there's like you know fake offices Right, fake offices. So I'm sure that when it comes out, somehow Arkus will find his way into the show. We'll definitely be in the show.
Justin Edelstein: And I'm sure the people who own this floor will make sure that everyone knows where to go see it. Yes. That's kind of a thing that he would do. And we'll make fun of them quite a bit. So anyway, that might be one of our picks. But let's move on. No one's ever going to see that show anyway. So let's move on. Who's never even heard of that. That a thing it's I. Ask them's like is that a thing it is it before I thought this was There's a web series because I put that above pop web series. Yeah web series. All right, it's gonna get fine Can we get to some things? All right, let's do come on. Let's go. All right, we got no time here All right, so I want to skip over our blog post 3.x.
06:34 Justin Edelstein: It's great. It's got continuous integration. You get an upgrade every two weeks. It's awesome. It's got a data importer. Sweet! It's got relationships with reciprocal stuff that understands that if you're a father, that you're related to your daughter. Cool. Cool. It's got a lot of cool stuff in it.
Jason Atwood: The one I want to highlight is the automatic update. So they do pushup greats every two weeks. Pretty cool. If you have, and I'd say even if you have a small nonprofit, don't be afraid to like go try nonprofit starter pack or get licenses for it. So I mean, if you have a PTA, these are nonprofits sometimes that just don't have even anybody even think about it. Like go learn a little bit about it. And you can try it out. If you're a synagogue or a church. There you go. Do your thing. Either one of those. Alright, so then we'll go on, I guess, maybe because you just want to get to your... I don't care about mine, I wrote one.
Justin Edelstein: Ideas for Marcus employees in need of votes. Part two.
Jason Atwood: I like that, I mean, it was... good except we didn't link yourself in the last one but I didn't like myself in the last one because I went myself in the first one so true it's a quality web standards and all out one so we we do we're a big fan of the idea exchange we actually keep a this is not a great secret but we keep a sheet that we put in all of our our idea exchange so basically just a way so if I have a great idea I don't have to Send it out in slack or chatter or whatever you have a sheet that you can go in Once every two weeks and see oh is there new ones in here that need to vote on so we kind of always stay on Top of that, but so this is our way to showing these out, but these are ones we created right we are these are ones that we Arkus employees created yes, I'm pick my figures allow for customizing chatter group header background.
Jason Atwood: That's lame So lame dude. I know it's coming to it's one of those it's one of those it's one of those pick up easy easy, like that you got things done,,,,,,,
Justin Edelstein: - I was just starting and I was any report type lead or contact Essentially an ID of a lead or a contact? Should have the add to campaign. Yes, definitely. That's it.
Jason Atwood: You know and Go read the blog post blog that are seeing calm that one's called ideas from Arca's employees recently, I think, self it is a lot know we're going back a couple months because again, things that happen one of the things that happened with this big thing that we've talked about on the podcast before. But fairly about summer's so a summer big, so I picked while we have five Let's just go down the list. This one I think is gonna be the one that acceleration of innovation Yeah, let's not let's read this take this huge PR thing and go right down to the part that says so the PR release is really just about all the lightning ization of everything. Everything's like now fine. No problem. But as I was reading through it, because I you know, I love me some PR, I was reading down and it's like doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo new pricing that to replace for new additions.
11:04 Jason Atwood: Right? So basically This is the way I'm reading this again. Maybe I'm just not understanding it. So Salesforce Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition, Unlimited Edition for Sales Cloud Service will be replaced. So they're going away. those licenses that you know they're being renamed relabeled they're being lightningized and lightning Enterprise Edition there's other field service lightning.
Justin Edelstein: So many lightnings. But they're being... the prices are jumping. you This whole thing It really means it comes with that stuff where it purchase that stuff.
Jason Atwood: To............ to enterprise and you know, you would, you know, say that's great because that's, you know, a lot of things that they've done has gone down. So what you could buy, okay 15 years ago, you go. You try to get an email account,
Justin Edelstein: Right? Or set up an email server on that Gmail beta.
Jason Atwood: That didn't exist 15 years ago. But the point is.
Justin Edelstein: You can get a dedicated server for like eight bucks a month, used to be 300 bucks a month. Oh, I see there's additional pricing down. The new one, 16 Steelberg CPQ, generally available today for Sales Cloud users learning, for user month user month. B B B B, I In fact, Remember when they bought dim dim? I do remember years ago. I do well much more than three. I don't know if that's true New marketing innovations are expected to be GA for those new email marketing innovations. The pricing will begin at 400 a month What it is? It's so great. Don't worry. We'll get it January 6 2011 Bye. That was Maybe we'll see it. Okay, why don't we move on? Because a lot of the stuff we just alluded to, we're going to now talk about.
15:27 Justin Edelstein: Google makes you wrong. Sorry. So here's my thing. Our computers are touching They're attesting. Eww.
Jason Atwood: I'm okay with the price increase. I mean, again, I think that with Salesforce, you know, there's always negotiation in the license saying, that's. My biggest thing of this, actually it's the thing that kind of sits in my craw a little bit, is don't tie lightning to it. Like, why not just be like, Enterprise Edition is now 150.
Justin Edelstein: Thunder's so jealous of lightning. Are you day drinking? I don't know what's in this water bottle. Yeah, water. It's clear liquid. Water it is not. It's clear liquid. So, the point is, like, we're so jealous of lightning, it's unbelievable.
Jason Atwood: But why, why tie lightning to it? I mean, maybe it's just because of... from my perspective, Lightning is something that I'm not excited about branding that I don't want to pay more for. Because if you're a new customer, you're paying now for Lightning, basically.
Justin Edelstein: Well, yeah, I don't think you're gonna have a choice based on what I just read. It's like, here's the additions go. But wait, but you understand what I'm saying? Why not just say Lightning is
Jason Atwood: Something we've innovated, but it's not something that we're tying our name brand to so we can then change the prices.
Justin Edelstein: Just like because Taxis Steve because Salesforce Steve. Yeah, like in a year from now we Salesforce
Jason Atwood: Thunderstorm or whatever, you know kind of when they did the chatter ization of everything everything had chatter in front of it They were chatter license is a chatter this in fact, they sold a chatter license It's like you don't have to always take the net thing and then put it in front of it just have it be one of the things that that kind of bugs me because Again, maybe we'll hear from others, but lightning isn't the thing that I'm kind of the most excited about I'm excited about the future with it maybe in a year or two years But but I'm not excited about you tying the name to it and making that Everything's lightning now because it is confusing. They've now pulled lightning from some products like it used to be lightning connect now It's not salesforce connect.
Jason Atwood: It's but it started off being something else. It was worth lightning connect It's about we can have so much fun There's at least 70 or 80 people who sit around in a room like well now they there's there's 70 or 80 people That
Justin Edelstein: Are sitting around in 8 to 12 rooms. Whiteboards. Just like... No, but they're all coming up with their own names. And then they just throw... Oh On to the computer. And then they just throw it out there. Oh, so bad. Oh we're such podcasters. And we're not broadcast. Not broadcast.
Jason Atwood: We are podcasters. Alright, next up, we'll talk. We'll get going, because we actually have a time limit here today. We really do. Salesforce IQ! Little love! Well, this for me was one big one, which was Salesforce Outlook. Salesforce IQ for Outlook. So it's building the Salesforce IQ inbox into Outlook. Okay, cool. I'm sure that's just a plug-in architecture. It's the same thing they've kind of done for Salesforce side panel. But more importantly... Working on the Mac version about look wasn't This just for the web version. Well, then that was another story. Hold on. No, no, no Oh so what they knows for the Mac they announced another thing for the Mac that the that the Salesforce outlook maybe salesforce outlook for Mac Okay,
18:43 Justin Edelstein: This is something to yeah, I'm reading 25 bucks a user per month desktop integration coming later this year
Jason Atwood: $400 per month and a million dollars per hour. So are you using IQ at all? No, so you use the Chrome extension I use sir a Sim box who competitor But have you tried this the Chrome extension?
Justin Edelstein: I have not I have I've tried it on my mobile Yeah, I don't like it. It tries to do too much for me. And I'm like, I don't want you to do that for me. You should follow this email. No, no, I know which emails I want to follow up on. Thank you. You should create a task for this. In some ways, I'm like, wow, that's pretty smart. Yeah, because it like pivotal words in an email and yeah, I should follow up on this. Yeah. Like, oh, wow. You know what? You might be right. But at the same time, I'm pretty good. It emails. I know what I want to follow up on. So I leave me alone. Kind of true.
Jason Atwood: But it's nice and see my, I mean, you know, Microsoft and Salesforce and click the Gmail link next to somebody's name. Remember when LinkedIn and Salesforce were buds? Never made it out of beta. Never did, three years later. All right,
Justin Edelstein: So living here in New York City.
Jason Atwood: Wait, but I don't, so, wait. I'm not at the point where Salesforce IQ is a pay product for me. That's not, like I'm not, that's not exciting to me yet, I'm just saying.
Justin Edelstein: Yeah, I know. I feel like it's good for us. Maybe the pay product does more things than the free thing does. I don't know. There's a webinar very soon. Let's do it. Let's watch it next up. All right, so living here in New York City We care about this.
Jason Atwood: So if you just if you don't live in New York City, just stop listening. Stop listening. You've already downloaded.
Justin Edelstein: Thanks But Salesforce is doing the Salesforce tower New York. Yes tower San Francisco is going up and They've announced that there's gonna be There's going to be a enormous New York tower in Bryant Park, yeah?
Jason Atwood: It's right off of Bryant Park. Which is very close to us. It is around the corner from us. Very, very cool. I'm excited. Not that the other one's very far away, like the Salesforce offices are up on 50, what, third and wax or something. That's one of them.
Justin Edelstein: They're on like 40 something and like... Oh yeah, sorry, 40s. So... It's a little weird how they announce this. It's like, Salesforce unveils Salesforce Tower in New York, dramatically expanding regional headquarters. World's fastest growing top 10 software company expects to double New York workforce. Company announces commitment to deliver 37,000 total employee volunteer hours to New York nonprofits this year. And then it goes on to talk about the actual story of building this thing at 3 Bryant Park, which Thank you very much. Just find a right on a weird way of doing a PR press release it is the PR press release here.
21:51 Jason Atwood: It's just not very good It's right in the corner of Brian Park and for second Street very cool. It's very close. It is very good That's the only reason we really care. We just want to move in and we want to I don't know.
Justin Edelstein: Salesforce will begin moving into the New York tower by the end of 2016. How is that possible?
Jason Atwood: Why? Are they just taking over a building?
Justin Edelstein: Yeah, the tower's been there. Oh, okay. We've been talking about it for years. They're not going to be toppling something and building something. No, we've been walking by it for years, dude. A small tornado on the bottom. Oh, got it. All right. I know the building. I missed it. I thought they were building something. They just bought it. They're throwing their name. I know you're going to get shaded here. We've been throwing shade right there. Alright, so speaking of lighting,
Jason Atwood: Silver has just bought another startup. Lightning shade available for... Sunlight shade. It's called the cloud. Oh, what was it? How was their stock doing? It was raised $- $22.65 million so far And Salesforce hasn't been available for comment.
Justin Edelstein: What does it do? This is just like more in the machine learning space. We have Salesforce IQ.
Jason Atwood: We want to just do that. Predictive data, data analysis. I think this is like a wave. Internet of Things. This is a wave play. This is like to boost wave, yes. Internet of Things potentially. I mean, who knows? Most of these things are AccuHires, right? There's some little a little company with some smart dudes or dudettes. and it gets I did them in
Justin Edelstein: The room well wave was pretty much a plug-in player that one was..
Jason Atwood: Things like buddy media radian six for plug-in plays and they turned him into like social studio was the clock was the idea is one
Justin Edelstein: Krispyen is this the news
Jason Atwood: I feel like ideas is besides Salesforce ideas. I feel like the ideas platform inside of Salesforce. It feels like it's kind of dying.
Justin Edelstein: You go into those community builder templates and ideas just aren't even like a thing. It's all answers? Yeah, it's all about answers and knowledge and cases.
Jason Atwood: I don't have ideas anymore. I just have answers. Yeah,
Justin Edelstein: And questions and questions. Lots of questions. my question is, what's the last story? The last story I just closed this article because it barely says anything is that Salesforce bought steel brick for 300 million dollars So what's that like a we're sick and tired of aptus sponsoring our event like why not just take all their money and when they Hmm got big client. They won't buy us because we don't have email marketing. Let's go buy exact target, right?
25:28 Jason Atwood: I Don't know. I mean since I've been doing it for so long. I feel like it hasn't stopped them, right? No one People still buy salesforce are still getting bigger. They took over email marketing space The other marketing vendors are still there.
Justin Edelstein: Interesting article about Marketa. They're still independent. Salesforce should just buy them too. A lot of their clients. or salesforce clients, they should just buy them. Like whatever. Just don't even just buy it for their existing clients and just So no one else can buy them. Right, right. And two, there's something else with that.
Jason Atwood: So yeah, this is another so basically an extension. Salesforce opportunities and quotes and all that has a lot of functionality that sort of sets the, you know, sets a good foundation. But when you get into very complex Quoting, discounting, reporting, it just doesn't the continue. It doesn't do as well. So then these companies have built on top of this solution. And Steelbrook was one of the big names. I don't think it was the biggest, but they bought them and now it's a Salesforce product, Salesforce Steelbrook. Which I'm sure we're learning a ton about.. I'm sure we will. So these world tours coming up, they got to talk about this stuff. They got basic professional and enterprise or their additions.
Justin Edelstein: Of course they do. Do lightning, basic professional,
Jason Atwood: But you still need to have sales forms in order to use it. No, no enterprise is $150 a, month. That's like one of those things too. It's like, is this a add-on or is this like,
Justin Edelstein: Didn't that first article we had have. Different pricing for different products. I thought they all have different pricing for different products I thought that that one had it really well listed out. Whatever. Well, it's in the show notes It there is no show notes. We don't we don't do show notes. We don't do Anyway, so that was it I know you certainly don't know anything. I know nothing. What should we do next time John? So now What should we just do like TV recaps or something TV recap? Yeah, what have you been watching on right now? No, we got this OJ stuff. We got how's the cards coming?
Jason Atwood: I haven't started yet. I'm gonna start it this weekend. I'm called saw I haven't started pound through it this weekend I'm gonna binge better call Saul. Do not care about better call Saul. Better call didn't finish the first season cuz it wasn't good Good Lord.
Justin Edelstein: All right, let's get to some pics of the week All right, I've been using this one. It's pretty good. All right, so. I'll install it while you do it. It's a chrome extension Yeah, really do I pick a chrome extension? So true. So rare This one's called Salesforce API field names. Love it. Simple name because it tells you exactly what it does. It's offered by a fella named Daniel Nachov. Nachov, N-A-K-O-V. Way to to ruin his name. Sorry dude. All this guy is K-S-O-P-E-R-S-I-M-P-L-E. You're sitting on a Salesforce page. I do all. They're just looking at a contact. I love it. I'm looking at a leader looking the labels on the detail to show you the underlying API name. Because oft- So...
29:05 Justin Edelstein: Oftentimes people change labels, but you shouldn't change API names because it could be referenced in code, it could be referenced in like an integration or whatever. So if you really want to know what the name of a field is, requires an API name, you can click this little button very easily., you know what I'm going to do? So now see the API names, you know, I'm going to do this in our org and see how it is. I already did that. I'm going to do something worse. What are you going to do? I'm going to do something worse. What are you going to do? I'm trying. I'm doing it now. There's a butterfly flapping in front of me. You're going into like yes, I want to see if it works in my guess is not lightning is not even loading lightning You're trying to do something on me.
Justin Edelstein: Don't even try it. No, no, I'm going in the lightning. Here we go. I'm in lightning It's not gonna work in lightning. This is kind of fun to try though, right? Yes I'm actually gonna scoot around and see what's going on. Let me do the playback play Jason's logging into lightning right now He's looking at an opportunity. He clicked the button And it would appear so... Not a thing actually happens. Sorry. Sorry, dude.
Jason Atwood: That's fine. Anyway, cool app. Not light. Does not work with lighting. That's fine.
Justin Edelstein: Not lighting enabled. Not lightning enabled. It's a Chrome extension anyway.
Jason Atwood: It's a cube. Cool one. Salesforce API field names. Chrome extension. That's very cool. I like that. That's useful. I wish they had it for Safari where I do most of my work. It's an HDMI cable because the intern that used to be not named wanted it that way. It just about fell down on that one. So many unnamed people can we ask? Well he was the intern though, should not be named. Now a valued member of the... Alright, you've untangled yourself? Alright, I'm gonna pick... I'm gonna pick...
Justin Edelstein: I'm a valued member of the... Yeah, I stopped the sentence. Fill in your blank. I'm touching my laptop.
Jason Atwood: So I'm gonna pick a social network.
Justin Edelstein: That's dumb, because you know you're not gonna use it two days from now. Well, I've been using it for the last two days because it's awesome.
Jason Atwood: Because you've been home alone. So you've heard of Vine. You actually picked Vine. Yeah, I've heard of Vine. So this is like Vine for dummies. 12 second videos and you post them right 12 14 seconds and then a little six seconds whatever This but the fun part is you can like do something funny and you can just cut yeah, you can cut them whatever This is called musically music dot le so musically why l why sorry well done I'm staring at it and it's written correctly so it is a Vine meets karaoke.
32:12 Justin Edelstein: Oh, this is the dumbest so I don't even want to hear it. Just end the podcast No, no, let me show you a few. Is there Texas Steve on there?
Jason Atwood: There's no Texas Steve But can I make one with Texas Steve? No, but when I show you a star of one of our two of them Wait,
Justin Edelstein: Is this video or is this? is video and audio that is the audio I just have a lot from I just pulled up one to me hold on to me on a C. I'm hold on this mobile only are the ahead and stop and click on any one of those anyone of these Oh my. Oh lord. Oh yeah. That's how I don't even know if I want to watch anything. You know what I'd kind of do.
Jason Atwood: I'm not so you don't the video ones you got to pick a video one like a music one that was video No, I don't know the music.
Justin Edelstein: Oh, I see Oh All right, whatever isn't that like a dub smash kind of situation that's going on right there Alright, this is boring people.
Jason Atwood: Alright, so it is kind of like this little, again, you make these little music videos, but it's a lip syncing thing. And then you can speed it up or you can... Here, let's try another one.
Justin Edelstein: Ooh, she's going for it there. But isn't it just a Dubsmash copier? Thank you. I guess okay She's pretty good at this
Jason Atwood: We're getting a video zero dog yeah, and she's pretty good at so it's a it's a little it's a little so it's you make This little videos you can share with people you let that It's my daughter's first social network So you make these little videos social network, which is very the neat thing is you can you could speed it up whatever They're very funny. They're a little addicting Anyway musically give it a shot. I don't know It's it's kind of funny. You can do collaboration with people make like a double but it's like little people making little music vines
Justin Edelstein: Yes, that would you people like your daughter?
Jason Atwood: And you and it's free and let's wrap it up right and it's free so let's wrap this up All right. Well, we'll be back next week. Follow us on Twitter That's just at all steam Jason Atwood and Arkus Inc on the Twitter Facebook.com slash Arkus Inc success community and power of us hub groups Although I think I forgot to post it to the power of this hub group last week. Well, we mentioned oh, you know what?
Justin Edelstein: I think I forgot to post it stuff Oh, better get in there.
Jason Atwood: Better get in there. LinkedIn, subscribe, and review, and link in iTunes and Stitcher. Your buffer app.
Justin Edelstein: Yes, it doesn't do it. It doesn't go to the community.
Jason Atwood: Yeah, so I did it, but I didn't think about this. I have to hurry up. Reup your workflow by the end. Until next week, Justin Jason saying, enjoy those cloudy days.
